TriAmerica New Orleans
I
am just back from the TriAmerica race in New Orleans' Northshore.
I had a terrific day and ended up with the win. I felt so strong
throughout the whole race and my body was incredibly responsive
every time I asked it to do more.
Attached (see below) you will find
a press release that is going out to all of the major endurance
sports publications. Also attached are some of my favorite
photos.
Next up is the Southeast Long
Course Championships, then the Kansas Ironman 70.3 followed by
the Black Warrior Triathlon.
Thanks for the continued support!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bastos takes TriAmerica National Triathlon Series - New
Orleans
Mandeville, LA (May 25, 2008) Brazilian professional
triathlete Felipe Bastos scorched the New Orleans’s north
shore to celebrate his 28th career overall win in the second
stop of the 2k/60k/15k National Triathlon Serious Tour.
The race, held during Memorial Day weekend, was Bastos’ last
hit out before the Southeast Long Course Championships at
the Colliseum Rock & RollMan. His 3:00:42 win was good
enough for the best time in all 3 disciplines on the day and
a new course record. “Even though I was on the lead all day,
I wanted to keep pushing it to the end to test my body in
the 90F heat and the humidity”.
Powering the bike after exiting the water with a 4-minute
lead on the swim, Bastos’ 1:29 bike ride split, combined
with a sub 1 hour run (58:31), and was good enough for a
28-minute win. “I felt great all day, and tried hard to
break the 3-hour mark, which has never been done on the
TriAmerica Series. In the end, I came up a few seconds
short, but I will be back to try again.
Bastos, an entering Law student at the University of
Alabama, will also be attending the Macon, Ga’s Southeast
Long Course Championships on May 31, as well as the
Lawrence, Kansas Ironman 70.3, a qualifying event for the
Ironman 70.3 World Championships.

Also, wanted to
let you know I am off to the Alabama State Championship this
weekend and will report back on Sunday. I have been training
hard an feeling pretty strong, so hopefully it will reflect on
the results this weekend. On Saturday I did a long ride ( 4
hours) with the middle 80 minutes in the mountains and felt
great throughout the whole ride. Fitness definitely feels like
its arrived!

Dallas Half IM update
I am just back from
the Dallas Half Ironman. The race was set entirely in the very
urbanized suburbs of Dallas, TX, in a very different scenario
than most other triathlon races. This fact alone made for a
great crowd of spectators!
Personally, I only
had an OK day, but was glad that a below average day yielded a
Top 5 finish, and a position within the prize purse. This is the
earliest I have ever done a Half IM in a season, so I was
pleased to see my hard work at the training camps early in the
season pay off with a top result.
I was 4th out of
the water, and once on the bike, I was only passed by Justin
Daerr ( he rode the day's best bike split); no one else passed
me the entire race. It felt good to hold on to my position
throughout almost the whole race.
The bike felt fast until the 2nd loop when the winds really
kicked in ( over 25 mph) and everyone's splits suffered from it.
The run felt OK and I was clocking 6:20 miles until mile 10,
when I realized I was locked into 5th, and I was able to shut it
down for the rest of the run home, thus saving my legs so I can
begin training sooner for my next race. At this point I am
surely racing the TriAmerica event in New Orleans, LA, in May. I
was just recently invited by the race director, and thought it
would be a great way to be part of an event that is helping
rebuild this great city.
I will forward
photos once they become available.
Many thanks for the
continued support!
Hope all is well,
