Albabici
and SMP are pleased to announce their sponsorship of
a new women's pro cycling team, Team Revolution.
Team Revolution is an elite women's cycling team
and a non-profit St. Louis-based cycling education and advocacy group for
women. All race-team members are invested in teaching and inspiring
women of all ages to ride for competition, recreation, health and fitness.
Our elite team travels the US to participate in
professional-level cycling races from February-September each year. In 2009,
we expect to travel to 18 states to train and participate in 52 races that
comprise 27 different events. While we will continue to race at select regional
local races, we will be turning our attention to the NRC races and USA Crit
series this year. We are proud of the national attention we've commanded at
professional races as we've continued to grow the regional scene in the
Midwest.
As part of our commitment to the regional race
scene, all race-team members work closely with Team Revolution's club team.
In St. Louis, we focus on weekly rides, training advice, seasonal and targeted
educational clinics in dirt, rain, snow, and blistering heat. We teach
our club members how to bike commute, layer for winter riding and do simple
maintenance on their own bikes. We give them the tools they need to fill
confident cycling in every environment. Additionally, all race and club members learn to
embrace their role as cycling advocates. We go into schools to teach kids
about helmet safety and partner with other local organizations on trail
maintenance. We are adamant about securing equal race time and prize money for
beginning women racers and have sent letters, written blog entries and made
noise on forums to ensure our collective voice is heard.
We believe it is up to communities like ours to
build the racers, to increase the confidence of women enough to stand on the
line and learn to take a corner in a field of other women. What we have
here in St. Louis may be fairly unique. We're working to ensure that it's
not.
