Greetings Team TIBCO supporters! - Crushing
The Competition In California
The Fourth
of July holiday meant more than flags and barbeques for Team
TIBCO's Liza Rachetto, Ali Rosenthal and Brooke Miller. The trio
trounced the field gathered in Davis,
California for the annual Fourth of July Criterium, working
seamlessly together to secure yet another win for TIBCO.
Development team racer Ali Rosenthal and Development Team
Assistant Director Liza Rachetto controlled the field with
constant attacks, setting up sprinter Brooke Miller to take the
win in the bunch kick.
The
following week, development team racer Ali Rosenthal raced in
south San Jose at the Coyote Creek Circuit race, battling
Northern California's strongest cyclists to take home yet
another win for Team TIBCO. After a long season of supporting
her national team counterparts in the NRC races, Ali has
consistently proven to be not only a selfless teammate, but also
a serious contender herself. Look for more to come from this
up-and-coming racer!
Winning At
The Cascade Cycling Classic
Team TIBCO's
national team took a quick road trip up to Bend, Oregon, to race
the Cascade Cycling Classic, a hilly and grueling stage race set
against some of the most picturesque and difficult mountain
climbs in the U.S. The team racked up two stage wins, a podium
finish and one seriously impressive solo breakaway over the
course of the week-long race.
TIBCO's
Brooke Miller took advantage of an auspicious break of seven
riders to finish third on the podium on Stage 2, a mountain-top
finish, no less! The following day, the team raced an aggressive
criterium in downtown Bend, once again setting up the Miller for
the sprint, which she handily won over Webcor's Gina Grain.
On Stage 5's
80 mile road race, the TIBCO women continued racing on the
attack with several breakaway attempts. Helen Kelly, Rushlee
Buchanan, Amber Rais and Brooke Miller each took a turn off the
front, challenging the other teams to match their efforts. In
the end, it was our young Kiwi, Rushlee Buchanan, who broke away
from the field alone. She faced tough headwinds and grueling
terrain, charging solo for the 50 miles leading to the final
climb. She held off a charging field led by Olympians Christine
Thorburn and Kristin Armstrong until just 5k to the finish.
The final 70
mile stage of the Cascade Classic took the field around four
brutally hilly loops over the Awbrey Butte in Bend. On the first
lap, former World Champion and Olympian Kristin Armstrong
attacked the lead group on the steep Butte, followed quickly by
TIBCO's Amber Rais, who also attacked the select group of
climbers, the only rider to respond to Kristin's attack. Rais
and Armstrong turned on the afterburners, working together to
leave the field behind and eventually putting four minutes into
the chasing field. Rais sprinted out of the final corner to win
the final stage, solidifying yet another outstanding performance
by Team TIBCO.
